✓ Oceans - total 5 : Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Arctic and Southern (Antarctic).
✓ Seas - Seas are smaller than oceans and are usually located where the land and ocean meet.
Typically,
seas are partially enclosed by land. Or we can say that Seas are extensions of the Ocean and Seas are near the land.
✓ Mariana Trench - it is the deepest oceanic trench on Earth, and is located in the western Pacific Ocean.
✓ Bay - A bay is a water body surrounded by land from three sides and has a wider opening than the total length.
✓ Gulf - A gulf is the water body surrounded by land from three sides and has a larger length and narrower opening.
What is a strait?
● A strait is a thin channel of a waterway that connects two large water bodies.
● Most Important use of Straits is Navigation.
● It is formed by natural processes (Some were made by Humans and that are called ‘Canal’ for example Suez Canal)
● It is narrower than the seas it connects.
● It is navigable
Strait of Gibraltar
● Contiguous Landmass - Spain and Morocco.
● Joining Seas/Water Bodies - The Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
Strait of Hormuz
● Contiguous Landmass - Iran and Oman/UAE.
● Joining Seas/Water Bodies - The Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf.
● It is a very important strait for Oil Supply in India.
● Gulf Countries - Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Iraq and Iran.
Strait of Bering
● Contiguous Landmass - Asia from America.
● Joining Seas/Water Bodies - The Arctic Ocean and East Pacific ocean.
